Who we are and what we do

Escape Beacon is a catalogue of escape rooms with real prices, duration, player counts and addresses. We have 2 883 rooms at 910 venues in 223 cities across 7 countries — Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Germany and Romania. Searching and booking are free for players.

Why it exists

Escape rooms are surprisingly hard to find. Directories are incomplete and contradict each other: one lists a game that has not run for a year, the second does not have it at all, the third has a different price than the venue itself. Smaller businesses outside the big cities are often nowhere to be found properly — and they are frequently the best ones.

So we do the opposite of what is fast: we verify every venue from several sources and, in the end, always on its own website, which takes precedence in case of conflict. What we cannot verify stays empty — better a missing detail than an invented one. Venues that have closed disappear from the database so that nobody stands in front of a locked door.

Ranking cannot be bought here

That is the one promise we make firmly. The order is determined by how well a game matches what you are looking for and by its rating — not by who paid. No paid placement, no hidden preference.

For players, searching and booking are free and will stay that way — there is no paid version for players and none is planned. An operator has the profile free forever: appearing in results, photos, the price list and a link to their own booking system. The booking system is a paid service at 10 € a month plus 4 € for each additional room, up to 45 € — but with no commission. We do not earn from how much the venues earn. Details are on the For operators page.

How we differ from other directories

We take no commission from bookings. Most portals take something from every booking, which gives them a reason to push players towards a particular venue. We have a subscription and it makes no difference to us who the player goes to.

We are not trying to replace the venue's booking system. Three quarters of venues already have one and it works for them. For those we send the player straight to their own page — we are not taking a customer from them, we are bringing them one.

An empty field instead of an invention. When we cannot verify a price, a duration or an address, we write that we do not have it and we do not fill it in by guesswork. That is why some games say "price on the website" — it is more honest than a number we make up.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an escape room cost? It depends on the country and the size of the team. In our database the median per person works out roughly like this: Hungary 14 €, Czech Republic 24 €, Slovakia 25 €, Poland 29 €, Austria 37 €, Germany 43 €. Most venues charge per team, so the bigger the team, the less per head.

How many people are escape rooms for? Most often two to six. Games for seven or more players are in the minority — the search lets you set the number of players and you will see only the ones you fit into.

How long does an escape room take? Typically 60 minutes, some 90 or 120. Add the briefing and the debrief afterwards, so you will usually spend about half an hour longer on site.

Do I have to register in order to book? No. Booking works without an account. The account is for the Escape Passport — the list of games you have played, private notes and ratings that stay with you even after you change your phone.

Do I book with you or with the venue? It depends on whether the venue has claimed its profile and switched bookings on with us. If it has, you book right here. If not, we send you to its own page — and it always says with the game which of the two applies.
